Bespoke courses

We have been asked by a number of authorities to deliver bespoke courses. These courses are tailor-made to suit the requirements of the particular authority and cover the following topics:

  • Investigate Structure and Function of the eye and visual system
  • Explore the main types of visual impairment and their causes
  • The impact of visual impairment on early development
  • Case study to examine the needs of learners with visual impairment
  • Effective Teamwork, key factors in effective support
  • Investigate the curriculum
  • Examine methods to ensure access to the curriculum
  • Explore the development of curriculum materials
  • Examine the environment
  • Communication

Audience for all courses: professionals working with visually impaired pupils, young people, students and parents/carers.

Cost (unless stated otherwise): £90 - parents £20.

Partners in Learning: an accredited programme for Education Professionals

Course length - six days. Cost - £650 per person.

This course is delivered over an academic year. It enables more in-depth consideration about supporting blind and partially sighted students within the class and also including pupils with more complex requirements. It provides more opportunity for in-depth analysis of the elements of the 'Supporting Blind and Partially Sighted Pupils' course and in addition includes:

  • The structure of the eye
  • Functions of vision
  • Inclusion
  • Working as a team
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Legislation
  • Mobility

Supporting Blind and Partially Sighted Customers: A Visual Awareness course for those working with members of the public

Course length - half day or one day.

  • The function of vision
  • More common eye conditions
  • How we use vision
  • Communicating with your customers (written and oral communication)
  • Sighted Guiding
  • Creating a good environment
