RNIB is a charity and we have three clear priorities:
1. stopping people losing their sight unnecessarily
2. supporting blind and partially sighted people to live independently
3. creating an inclusive society.
Our Trustees
RNIB's Board of Trustees is RNIB's supreme decision making authority. The Board is responsible for taking the major decisions which affect the organisation, including appointing RNIB's Chief Executive.
Our Chief Executive and Strategic Management Team
RNIB's structure puts us in the best position possible to achieve our aim of ending the isolation of sight loss. We are divided into six groups, each working to acheive various parts of our overall strategy.

Our history
In 1868 Dr Armitage founded an organisation known as the British and Foreign Society for Improving Embossed Literature for the Blind. It then became the British and Foreign Blind Association receiving a Royal Charter in 1948. In 1953 it became known as the Royal National Institute for the Blind. Read more about the history of RNIB.
