In 2006 the European Commission began to review the group of EU directives which cover telecommunications. Reform proposals were published by the Commission in November 2007 and are currently being examined by the Council and the European Parliament.
RNIB is working with other disability organisations in the UK, such as RNID, Sense and Leonard Cheshire Disability to ensure that the next generation of telecoms equipment will be accessible to blind and partially sighted people.
