Fortnight of action! 19 July - 2 August
Fortnight of action - campaigner pack (Word, 237KB)
During the last 2 weeks of July we will be organising a series of events and activities across the English regions to promote the Stop for Me, Speak to Me bus campaign. These activities can include things like swap with me events and mystery shopping, blogging, letter writing and using social media as well as other campaigning activities, you can be as creative as you like!
To link the regional events together across the fortnight we are planning a bus relay from one end of the country to the other. This relay will involve volunteers undertaking a leg of the journey / relay in their local area, handing over to other volunteers to take on the next leg etc. We hope to take the relay to many of the local events, as well as visiting the minister for Transport on our way, delivering to him evidence gathered through out the campaign and a call for him to take action. We will blog during the relay, film parts of it and get the media involved.
We need as many people getting involved as possible during this fortnight of action - download our campaigners pack (Word, 237KB) and please get in touch with your RNIB Regional Campaigns Officer.
"Swap with me" events
Swap with Me events let bus drivers and operators swap places with their blind and partially sighted customers, so they can really understand why we are calling for urgent accessibility improvements.
The events are a great way of building positive relationships between blind and partially sighted people and their local bus operator and during 2013, local campaigners across England are planning to run their own 'Swap with me' events.
Our new campaign resource pack and event guide gives you the tools and information to help you get involved. Your Regional Campaigns Officer is also on hand to give you information about what is already happing in your region, plus advice and tips if you are interested in running a 'Swap with me' event with your local bus company.
