Charity of the Year - £100,000 raised for RNIB

Coventry Building Society is delighted to have hit its target donation for RNIB, its first ever 'Charity of the Year' in 2007/2008.

On April 10 2008 a cheque for a staggering £100,000 was presented to RNIB at the Society's Annual General Meeting. Staff took part in numerous fundraising activities during the year including parachuting, a Dragon Boat race, a five day cycling challenge and a blindfold sponsored walk. Customers of the Coventry also supported the charity by making donations into RNIB's Sooty boxes in every branch.

As well as fundraising for RNIB, the Coventry's staff created a sensory garden at RNIB's Rushton School and Children's Home in Coventry and decorated two communal leisure rooms at RNIB Loughborough College.

The funds donated will support RNIB's Rushton School and Children's Home in Coventry.

David Stewart, chief executive at Coventry Building Society said: "This is a fantastic result and the culmination of lots of hard work from staff throughout the Society. It's great to raise such a huge amount of money, much of which will go to help the development of Rushton School. We wish them well in the future."

Lesley-Anne Alexander, chief executive at RNIB said: "We are delighted to have been Coventry Building Society's first charity of the year and are grateful for the support and efforts of all involved at the building society. £100,000 is an incredible amount and these funds will make a huge difference - well done to the Coventry."
