Bristol
John Stanworth, RNIB Wills and Legacies Advisor for the Southwest, held a recent Supporter reception at Ashton Court Mansion.
With almost 900 years of history, Ashton Court Mansion and its parkland estate covers 850 acres of woods and grasslands and offers breathtaking views over Bristol. It was a magnificent venue for our supporters to have lunch and hear about the work of RNIB's crucial services including the RNIB Talking Book Service, Wills and Legacies Advisory Service, audio description and community fundraising.
Guests also had the opportunity over lunch to ask questions and talk to staff about RNIB's work.
Hatfield House
On a sunny spring day we welcomed supporters to a reception in the splendid surroundings of Hatfield House.
Steeped in history Hatfield has been home to the aristocracy for centuries. Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood at Hatfield - it was in the grounds that a young princess Elizabeth first heard of her accession to the throne.
Presentations were given by several of RNIB's crucial services including the Talking Book Service, Wills and Legacies Advisory Service and Talk and Support. Guests took the opportunity to ask questions and talk to staff about RNIB's work.
Chester
Eaton Hall is the opulent country house of the Duke of Westminster, RNIB's President. It is a private residence but, with the kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Westminster, we were delighted to be able to invite our supporters to an evening reception in the Long Room at this magnificent location.
On a beautiful summer's evening, representatives from RNIB spoke about audio description and the Talking Book Service. Guests found the event rewarding and enjoyable.
Glasgow
The Glasgow reception was held in the beautiful surroundings of The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour. The Tall Ship is a Clyde-built sailing ship restored to her former glory. After the reception guests gained an insight into a bygone era and a life on the high seas as they were given time to look around the ship free of charge.
York
In celebration of over 70 years of the RNIB Talking Book Service, an evening champagne reception was held at the National Railway Museum in York.
RNIB supporters enjoyed mingling with staff from a range of our major services - Talk and Support, Audio Description, the Social Inclusion Unit and the Wills and Legacies Advisory Service. The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Ian Turner from RNIB about the gigantic strides made by the RNIB Talking Book Service over the last seven decades.
Supporters took the opportunity to browse around the locomotives in the Great Hall. This provided a pleasant trip down memory lane for many - especially one lady who used to travel to school on the Mallard steam train, now housed at the museum.
We were grateful for the support of a local business, which kindly sponsored the event.
