Legacy supporter stories - John Vale

Mr John Vale, 65 years old, was left with very little sight after many operations to try to save the sight he had left. He found life very difficult.

"I was suicidal when I first lost my sight, but then I contacted RNIB and they supported me in so many directions it's unbelievable."

John Vale's experience with RNIB

"They showed me the practical and useful equipment I needed to make my life easier and I joined their Talking Book Service, which is just out of this world. I got audio description to enable me to enjoy television again and was introduced to equipment to make my computer accessible. They helped me out with my claims for Disability Living Allowance and Carers Allowance, so that I don't have to feel guilty about getting the help I need and showed me how Access to work could support me so I didn't have to give up my job.

"RNIB has shown me that there are so many things I can still do and enabled me to enjoy and value my life again."

Leaving a Legacy

"I am leaving a legacy to RNIB because I want them to do for other people what they have done for me. The thought of someone losing their sight and not having that support is terrible. I really don't know where I would be without RNIB and would like to know they will be there to help others in the future."
