Games and toys

Find out more about selecting toys for your child with our toys and play guide for children who are blind and partially sighted. We've teamed up with The British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) to produce a leaflet providing information on how to choose the right toys, creating a play environment, growing through different types of play and top tips for extending your child's play environment.

Readers of Insight magazine can also enjoy our regular toys and play column which features toys for children at different ages, stages of development and with different interests.

For more toy ideas visit the RNIB shop.

Books and resources

  • Visit our Books and reading section for parents
  • Birmingham City Council's positive images page provides a large number of suggestions for books and resources for blind and partially sighted children. The stories are full of adventure and they explore what it's like to have a visual impairment. There's also a useful list of links and information on how to borrow the books if you live in or around Birmingham.
  • Scope's In the Picture campaign raises awareness of the need to include disabled children in the books they read.

RNIB National Library Service

RNIB National Library Service is the largest library in the UK for readers with sight loss. We offer a wide choice of fiction and non-fiction books in audio, braille and giant print for adults and children.
