Partners in Learning training at RNIB Pears Centre

Do you support learners with visual impairment and complex needs?

Vision is most children's main channel for communication and understanding. Learning with little or no sight therefore presents significant challenges to established ways of teaching. Additional disabilities and complex needs intensify these issues. These may include:

  • learning difficulties and disabilities
  • additional sensory impairment (deafblindness)
  • healthcare needs, such as epilepsy
  • physical disabilities
  • communication difficulties
  • social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

As a teacher, teaching assistant, support worker or therapist, you fulfil a crucial role in understanding and meeting the needs of learners with visual impairment and complex needs in your setting.

RNIB's accredited Partners in Learning course offers you the chance to develop specialist skills for effectively supporting children and young people with visual impairment and complex needs to maximise their learning potential.
