Divided into five levels, Hands On includes 32 practice books, each introducing a letter, contraction, punctuation marks or numbers, as well as booklets of fun activities and real stories. The new material has been linked as closely as possible with the Letters and Sounds framework, while not compromising the need to keep tactually confusing braille signs apart.
The whole scheme includes a large number of simple tactile pictures and puzzles to enliven the reading material.
Hands On is supplied with a 'Getting started' guide. This guide contains all the information you will need to start teaching Hands On straight away.
A full Teachers' Handbook will be available to purchase later this year. It will include notes on developing pre-braille skills, the full text of all the Hands On booklets, and additional ideas for reading and writing activities.
