On this page we tell you how you can go about claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA) if you are blind or partially sighted.
How do I request a DLA claim pack?
Telephone the Benefits Enquiry Line free on 0800 88 22 00 or the Disability Contact Processing Unit (DCPU) on 08457 123 456 and ask for a DLA claim pack. The form is available in large print if you ask for it.
You can also apply for DLA online at the GOV.UK website.
If you are awarded DLA, it will start from the date of your phone call to request the claim pack, as long as you return the form within six weeks.
We recommend that you complete the pack giving details of both care and mobility needs so that you are assessed for both components of DLA. Read our DLA form tips to get the most from your claim.
Who can help me fill out my DLA form if I am blind or partially sighted?
If you need help completing the pack, ask the Benefits Enquiry Line for the forms completion service or home visiting service. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) can provide transcripts of your answers to the questions on the claim form in large print or braille.
If you would prefer someone else to help you, then call our Helpline on 0303 123 9999 and one of our advisors will find somebody to help fill in your form.
What can I do if the DWP turn down my claim for DLA or I am unhappy with what the DWP award me?
If your claim for DLA is turned down, or you are awarded less than you believe you are entitled to, you can appeal the DWP's decision. Please see our benefits appeals page for more information on how to appeal a DLA claim decision.
