Personalisation is the new way of providing community care and will provide you with the monies necessary to organise and arrange your care. This may sound very much like direct payments, but the care you can organise is much wider and more innovative and not restricted to the likes of shopping, cleaning and personal care.
Depending on where you live, personalisation might be called "self-directed support," "individual budget" or a "personal budget." The most common term seems to be self-directed support and this is the one that we use.
There are a number of things that make self-directed support different from the traditional way of providing community care. These include the right to self-assess and the increased importance given to preventative services.
The idea of self-directed support is to enable you to have greater control in how you shape your life.
Our self-directed support factsheet
The factsheet will help you to understand how self-directed support works and how to get any support you might be entitled to. It will also explain what you can expect and what is expected of you.
