RNIB Access Consultancy Services

RNIB Access Consultancy Services is a pan-disability, access consultancy. We aim to help create an inclusive society by improved access for disabled people to the environments and services they use.

The work we undertake in relation to accessible environments includes:

• Access audits of existing environments to identify barriers to access and recommend solutions for improvement.
• Design appraisals of proposed environments to identify potential barriers to access, offer solutions and advise design teams.
• Access statements at any or all stages of a project, to help show how inclusive design is being considered.
• Signage assessments of existing signage, development of new signage strategies, and design assessments.
• The design and production of RNIB Map for All in both large static displays or as hand-held tactile maps.
• RNIB React electronic wayfinding system for blind and partially sighted people in pedestrian and transport environments.
• The creation of tactile images that allow blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to explore objects that would not normally be accessible to them.
• Touch installations that can be used to interpret a wide range of subjects in a variety of different environments.
• Inclusive design products consultancy and the RNIB Reference.
• Visual and disability awareness courses and a range of technical courses.
• Publications relating to inclusive design.

We have been delivering disability and access related training for over 15 years and have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the needs of disabled people. As part of RNIB we have unrivalled experience and resources related to sight loss issues. We regularly consult with users and our research and policy activities have kept us at the cutting edge of the disability field. We also have involvement or influence on many of the main standards and guidance documents in the industry.

Our built environment team includes access consultants who are registered consultants with the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC). This means that our consultants have met rigorous assessment criteria and receive ongoing continuous professional development.
