School age education

This section provides information and resources on supporting blind and partially sighted children in mainstream primary and secondary schools.

It includes ideas for education professionals looking for creative ways to teach national curriculum subjects to children with a visual impairment. It also looks at ways to remove barriers to learning and participation in our access to education pages and offers advice and guidance in relation to social inclusion and mobility and independence.

For information on the modification of exam and test papers, visit our access to exams and tests pages which offer resources for teachers on formats and access arrangements as well as advice on helping to prepare students for tests and examinations.

You may also be interested in our 'Count me in training DVD', which promotes good practice in the inclusion of blind and partially sighted children and young people, and our 'One of the class CD-ROM'. This is crammed with eleven printable subject supplements to help staff in mainstream and special schools provide full curriculum access for learners with sight problems.
