Having a sight problem shouldn't be a barrier to learning. Our learning products and publications are designed to help blind and partially sighted students in common school subjects. You can view our full range of toys, games and learning products on our online Shop.

New products and publications

We are constantly adding new titles to our shared reading book range, and January saw the launch of eight new additions. These books have been specially adapted to include the text in braille, which is produced on clear plastic sheets and either applied to the pages of the book or interleaved with the print pages. This means that the print can still be read underneath, and encourages sighted and non-sighted readers to read together.

Access2books is a Community Interest Project that produces and publishes high quality early years books with giant print (75 point), braille and enlarged illustrations. The following titles are available to purchase through our online shop:

Back by popular demand, the Sound beacon is a compact black box which emits a beeping tone to warn of obstacles or hazards ahead. Used widely in schools, offices and public spaces, this new improved version has four different beep tones, three volume settings and a handy belt hook and velcro strap for attaching to safety barriers and ladders.

Children will love our two new wooden puzzle sets. Sound boxes are made up of six pairs of square boxes with a matching rattle, and Weight boxes are six pairs of smooth cylinders with matching weights. These toys can help to develop matching, comparing and differentiation skills.

Three new low cost additions to our talking calculator range are ideal for using in class or doing homework. They all read out calculations in a clear American female voice. The jumbo 12 digit calculator is about the size of an A4 sheet of paper and has easy-to-see, oversized black buttons which are printed with white text. The eight digit talking calculator is our lowest priced version. It is silver in colour with an easy-to-see display and buttons in black or white, printed with contrasting black or white text. Our twelve digit version has large well spaced buttons printed with black text.

A great tool for secondary school pupils, the Franklin language master is a fully speaking dictionary and thesaurus contains 300,000 dictionary definitions and includes 500,000 synonyms and antonyms. It has a large, easy-to-see LCD display and adjustable voice speed.

For children who love to get up close and personal with nature, try our new nature magnifiers. The set of ten Bug pots are great for examining smaller specimens such as small insects and seeds, and the Large nature magnifier set is great for larger specimens such as leaves and larger insects.

The new Optelec Compact 7HD is a portable video magnifier with a seven inch screen making it the perfect compromise between portability and a full size desktop video magnifier. The screen can be angled so that material can be read in a more ergonomic position, making it ideal for students to use at their desk
