There are nearly one and a half million people in the UK with a learning disability. As an estimated 1 in 3 of them have a sight problem it's important that all optometrists are aware of how to best engage with this client group.
'Bridge to Vision' is a training programme that has been produced by RNIB in conjunction with leading expert Professor Daphne McCulloch from Glasgow Caledonian University's Vision School. It provides an easy way for optometrists and dispensing opticians to gain an overview of this subject and aims to bring accessible eye care closer to people with a learning disability; increasing their choice, independence and quality of life.
Covering the two core competencies of Communication Skills and Visual Function, 'Bridge to Vision' explains the alternative testing methodologies available, as well as the key considerations for dispensing and clinical decision-making.
The training is available for free in three different formats, each of which provide 2 CET points on completion.
