Talking calculators

A talking calculator is a great tool for keeping on top of your finances.

Talking calculator with alarm clock

RNIB's talking calculator with alarm clock (LC191) has a 10-digit, large print, LCD display and a built-in talking alarm clock. Entries, results and time are reported in a human (American) voice. The time and date display are also shown in American format. The calculator will automatically revert to time mode if left idle for 8 minutes. Answers can be reported in digits or units (there is also a repeat answer function). The calculator has an attractive desktop design with high-contrast, soft-touch keys. It needs two AAA batteries (supplied). It has no headphones, volume is on/off only and there is no square root function. Price: from £7.99 (sale price until noon 30 March 2012).

Talking calculator with earphones

We also sell a talking calculator with earphones (DH83). This is a black desktop talking calculator that performs standard mathematical functions and percentages. It has a synthetic female American voice, announces each key pressed and the results of calculations. The "audio results only (ARO)" key can be used, so only the results are announced (this can be in digits or units and there is a repeat results function). Volume can be adjusted to off, low and high. It is supplied with earphones and two AA batteries. Price from £16.75.

Big Number calculator

Finally, if you don't need speech but do want something that's easier to see, there is the Big Number calculator (LC173). This desktop calculator has large clear keys and display, and performs standard mathematical functions and percentages. It is solar and battery powered (one R389 button cell battery - supplied) and turns itself off if it is not used after six minutes. Price from £8.50.
