Jayne: Hello I'm Jayne Miller I am the Conference and Catering Project Officer at RNIB in Birmingham. Concept is a social enterprise that is supported by RNIB. When Anialdeep joined Concept she came to us as a volunteer. Although she was a bright bubbly girl she very much lacked confidence. Anialdeep: Before I joined Concept my day to day was very much just sitting down and crying all the while and just saying to my Mum I just won't ever be able to find work and nobody will be able to help me in that way. Jayne: Without the support of RNIB and Concept I think Anial would still be at home watching television all day and dreaming that one day she might get a job. Anialdeep: Before I came to Concept I did feel excluded from life. I just totally thought that nothing would ever happen. Jayne: The way we helped Anial feel included and we helped her to move on, to go from here, to work for someone else was just giving her small steps making her believe in herself. Anialdeep: After a few months I knew that I was changing. I noticed it on the bus, they gave me training, and wow now I can do it. Even though I struggle to see, it is just, I can't even speak it out to tell you how much it has changed for me... it is just definitely has changed, and I feel I am a completely different person. Jayne: I think it is very important that blind and partially sighted people work, for our own self esteem we need to work. I have had to work twice as hard as a normal chef to achieve what I have achieved. The catering environment can be a place where blind and partially sighted people can work and I think there may have been a few doubts about that to start with. Anialdeep: I know I wouldn't be able to get the job at Marks and Spencer's if concept wasn't behind me.
