Peggy Sharp video transcript I'm Peggy Sharp. I'm 83 years old and I started to lose my sight at the age of 78. My sight deterioration crept up on me slowly, and it was a nuisance because I kept falling. I broke my ankle and my wrist because there were times when I just could not see. I did become isolated because you get to a point where you won't go out. When you go on a bus, you can't read the timetables, so I stopped doing that. It made me feel angry because it was taking my independence away. The RNIB welfare rights officer managed to get me £81.50 per week. With this extra money that I received, I had a holiday in Weston Super Mare. That was my first holiday for 20 years, and it was wonderful! RNIB gives you a lot of support, and it gives you confidence and plenty of advice which you do need. They gave me a large button telephone because I mis-dialled so many times, but now it's lovely, I can look at it and dial away to my heart's content. No wrong numbers! My son reckons he's got to make a date to come and visit me, because when he comes I'm never in! When I think what my life was like four years ago and how it is now, I just feel that thanks to RNIB, I now have a future. Even though I am 83!
