A new assessment toolkit has been designed to address the specific needs of blind and partially sighted job seekers.
The toolkit, which has come from our ENABLER project, creates a mechanism by which customers' progress towards employability can be measured over time. It seeks to address concerns that existing government welfare to work provisions can fail to recognise the additional barriers facing blind and partially sighted people.
RNIB and Action for Blind People have been working with blind and partially sighted customers to design and test the toolkit. At the end of the project we hope to use our understanding to influence government welfare to work provision and other service providers in the sector.
The ENABLER project represents a unique collaboration between RNIB, Action for Blind People, the Visual Impairment Centre for Teaching and Research at the University of Birmingham, and Big Lottery Fund.
