Background

A review of eBook players, formats and service providers, considering how accessible this new way of reading will be for blind and partially sighted users.

Key findings

  • The availability of thousands of books electronically may enable greater access for blind and partially sighted people.
  • There are a number of issues which affect the accessibility of eBook players. These include fiddly buttons, complicated menus and confusion over the many different eBook formats.
  • Streamlining of the process of purchasing and downloading eBooks would benefit not only blind and partially sighted people but also the wider population.
