RNIB has commissioned research into the availability of accessible versions of the most popular books in the UK. In 2011, 76 per cent of the top 1,000 titles were available in braille, audio and large print, including titles available in these formats using accessible eBooks.

Key findings:

In 2011, 76 per cent of the top 1,000 titles were available in braille, audio and large print, including titles available in these formats using eBooks

Blind and partially sighted readers who prefer to download their audio books could obtain 42 per cent of the top 1,000 titles of 2011

Of the most popular books of 2011, fiction titles were more likely to be accessible than non-fiction

Without eBooks, only 17 per cent of 2011's most popular books were fully accessible, compared to accessibility levels of 76 per cent when including accessible eBooks

Accessible eBooks make a huge difference to blind and partially sighted people's choice of titles
