Accessible post offices

Some of you may have been involved in a project we undertook earlier this year with Action on Hearing Loss and Consumer Focus Wales, which involved people with sensory loss conducting "mystery shopping" exercises in 150 post offices across Wales.

Mystery shopping results

The findings clearly showed that, whilst there were some positive experiences, considerable improvements were needed to make Post Offices more accessible. A third of the mystery shoppers with sight loss, for example, reported it was difficult to even get through the door because of obstacles and trip hazards.

Since we published our findings back in June, we've met with Post Office Ltd to discuss taking the issue forward. They're currently finalising a guide to accessibility issues that will be distributed throughout the network, and rolling out a programme of training and in-store improvements. It seems that they really have taken the project's recommendations on board and are now talking about using them to inform their work in other parts of the UK - so a great campaigning success for Wales!
