Accessible information and transcription in Wales

Accessible formats

Our accessible information team produces the following formats:

  • braille
  • large print
  • e-text
  • audio.

Even if you have never received requests for formats other than standard print, don't assume that your customers can read what you are producing. Some examples include:

  • information leaflets
  • annual reports
  • financial or service information
  • newsletters
  • contact details.

We can help you to meet your duty under the Equality Act 2010, which now specifies that providing information in an accessible format can be a reasonable adjustment.

Our team has extensive experience in producing accessible formats and can advise on everything from layout, font size, and colour contrast, to which format is best suited to your customers.

Training and consultancy

Attend our training courses and make sure your message gets through to your customers. Our courses can teach you:

  • To develop good practice in producing clear and accessible documents for the public, and follow these guidelines in your organisation.
  • To be more confident in meeting the information needs of people with sight problems but also many other groups of people who find it difficult to read standard print.
  • To break down some of the main barriers your organisation may face in communicating with a wide audience.
  • To understand how people with sight problems read.

Welsh Language Projects

Welsh Talking Books

RNIB's Talking Books service provides 1.76 million Talking Books to 39,000 blind and partially sighted subscribers each year, but fewer than 1 in 20 titles are available as Talking Books. This figure is far worse in Welsh and our new titles will help to change this.

Curriculum materials

Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, our curriculum materials enable blind and partially sighted children to learn alongside their sighted peers.

For more information on any aspect of our Accessible Information Service please telephone us on 029 2044 9575 or email accessibleinformationcymru@rnib.org.uk.
