RNIB Cymru, Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and Sense Cymru submitted a joint response to the Heath and Social Care Committee - Inquiry into Residential Care for Older People, and presented evidence at the Inquiry today.
Ansley Workman, RNIB Cymru's Independent Living Manager, outlined that "Sight loss is rarely recognised as a need in itself, it is seen as more of a complicating factor in other needs and therefore is often not addressed. Recognising and addressing sight loss needs to underpin the services provided by Registered Care Homes in order to provide a truly person centred approach to services. Meeting individuals' sensory loss needs to be central to both the commissioning process and regulation."
