Preventing sight loss report launched

With support from the Pfizer Foundation, RNIB Cymru has produced a report titled 'Preventing Sight Loss in Older People'.

The report presents findings and recommendations based on consultation with people aged 60 and over, from Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil, to identify the barriers and enablers to having a regular sight test. Nearly half of people aged 60 and over in these areas did not have a sight test in 2009/2010.

The findings highlight that cost was perceived as a significant barrier, particularly in relation to purchasing glasses. Cost implications associated with the sight test may have been more of an issue in the low income communities where the study took place, however cost has also been identified as a barrier in other UK research.
