Blind and partially sighted people are being invited to attend a free technology taster session as part of RNIB Cymru's 'Switch On to Technology' month.
During November RNIB is running events across the UK, with the aim of enabling blind and partially sighted people to make the most of the benefits that technology can bring. In Wales, events will be taking place in Bangor, Rhyl, Swansea, Ebbw Vale and Pontypridd.
The agenda will be the same at each of the Welsh locations, with workshops running from 10am-4pm, and refreshments and lunch provided. The workshops cover three key topics: finding the right mobile phone; the benefits of getting online; and using eBooks and downloadable audio books.
Spaces are limited, so to reserve your place please call 029 2045 0440 or email cymruevents@rnib.org.uk.
Michelle Herbert is RNIB Cymru's Digital Inclusion Manager. Michelle explained: "Technology isn't just about gadgets - it's about making life easier. It can be daunting knowing where to start, however, with so many products available and new ones being developed all the time. If you or someone you know would like to understand more about how the internet can benefit someone with sight loss, how to choose the best mobile phone for you or how to go about downloading audio books, then please do come along".
RNIB has also developed a series of beginners' guides on these topics, for people unable to attend the workshops. These can be ordered via the RNIB Helpline (0303 123 999) in large print, audio CD and braille formats, or downloaded from the RNIB website.
