Challenge 20/20
Philip Mitchell completes 20 marathons in 20 days!
Launched in April at Cookstown Leisure Centre, Challenge 20/20 reached its grand finale on 30 August 2012 when Philip Mitchell finished his 20 marathons in 20 days to raise £10,000 for RNIB NI.
Philip, who works in Cookstown Leisure Centre as a personal trainer embarked on his epic journey on 11 August. He has walked over 524 miles around Northern Ireland.
Philip's route
This route saw Philip start out in Cookstown and then make his way to Omagh, Strabane, Derry/Lderry, Limavady, Coleraine, Portballintrea, Ballycastle, Waterfoot, Larne, Antrim, Glengormley, Bangor, Portaferry, Comber, Downpatrick, Newcastle, Warrenpoint, Bambridge, Armagh and finally finishing at the ASDA store in Cookstown.
Challenge 20/20 has already seen Philip, along with many supporters, raise awareness and much needed funds by way of other events and activities such as a 'Dining in the Dark' experience at Killymoon Golf Club in June, a relay team running the Belfast Marathon and a planned swim across Lough Neagh in September.
Jackie Cotton, RNIB NI Community Vision Co-ordinator (CVC) for Mid Ulster, said, "We are extremely grateful for the effort Philip has put in to this challenge. For 20 days he has been totally selfless and only focused on achieving his goal."
Many local clubs and community organisations pledged donations, and local Magherafelt sports shop, Sportique, donated top quality walking equipment to Philip.
Philip Mitchell said, "The support for my challenge has been simply over-whelming and I'd especially like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the hotels along the route for offering me a bed for the night. It's an amazing feeling to reach the finish line, but I am looking forward to a lye in tomorrow."
