Campaigns - RNIB Scotland

Manifesto for the Scottish Parliament Election

The fourth term of the Scottish Parliament takes place against a backdrop of much tighter public expenditure.

In our manifesto for the 2011-15 Scottish Parliament, Don't Lose Sight of Sight Loss, RNIB Scotland is concentrating on stopping people losing their sight unnecessarily; supporting independent living; and creating an inclusive society.

Within these broad aims, we have identified a number of specific issues that we will campaign on. A key theme will be the need to maintain and invest in eye-health services upfront in order to minimise preventable sight loss as far as possible in years to come.

  • Accessible healthcare information.
  • Emotional Support for newly diagnosed patients.
  • Highlighting the link between Learning Disability and Visual Impairment.
  • Increasing the rate of Employment for people with sight loss of working age.
  • Ensuring all educational materials are fully accessible to students with sight loss.
  • Promoting the Haggeye youth forum's "Stop and Stare" campaign.
  • Preventing sight loss.

RNIB Scotland also campaigns on a variety of other issues as they arise.

At the UK level, RNIB Scotland works alongside RNIB's national campaigns such as welfare reform and Talking Books.
