Family Day in Kirkcaldy

At least one in three people with a learning disability may also have a visual impairment. If you live or work with someone with a learning disability, do you know how this may impact on their daily life?

This Saturday [September 26], the Royal National Institute of Blind People Scotland and NHS Fife are holding a Family Day in Kirkcaldy that will provide free vision-awareness training to parents and carers.

Taking place at Fife Sensory Impairment Centre at Wilson Avenue, the day will include practical advice and information along with a chance to try some relaxing therapies and fun activities like Indian Head Massage and Hypnotherapy. There will also be an opportunity to try out some of the facilities such as the Multi-Sensory Room and the Music Room.

The free Family Day will begin at 10am and end at 3pm.

Janice Bain, development worker with RNIB Scotland, said: "The aim of the day is to encourage families to engage with the project in a relaxed and informal setting. We will cover any expenses incurred by parents or unpaid carers in attending, such as travel or respite costs. There will be support staff available on the day to allow parents and carers to take part in the activities if they wish.

"We will provide refreshments and a nice lunch, and hopefully meet some parents or carers who can't come to training sessions on a weekday, or who are happier coming along with their families.

"All families attending will also be entered into a free prize draw with the first prize being a £25 voucher."

* If you would like to attend, please telephone 01592 583275, e.mail pathway@rnib.org.uk, or write to RNIB Pathway, Fife Sensory Impairment Centre, Wilson Avenue, Kirkcaldy KY2 5EF.
