RNIB and Panorama

RNIB featured in a Panorama programme on BBC1 on 28 January 2013 which investigated how the Government's Work Programme is failing disabled job seekers.

The Government promised the Work Programme will "offer you personalised help so that you can work if you are able to". From RNIB's experience this just isn't the case.

Blind and partially sighted people are being moved into a "job ready" benefit but not being offered the specialist support they need to find employment. In fact we understand very few people with sight loss have gained jobs through the Work Programme.

RNIB is committed to helping blind and partially sighted people obtain or retain employment - especially when we know nine out of ten employers rate blind and partially sighted people as either "difficult" or "impossible" to employ.
