NP Aerospace raises £2511 for RNIB School and Children's Home

Employees at NP Aerospace, a leading supplier of Advanced Composite products, have raised over £2,511 for children with complex needs and sight loss living at RNIB Rushton School and Children's home in Ash Green.

Despite the economic climate, enthusiastic employees participated in the arduous C2C Challenge cycling 144 miles from Whitehaven to Sunderland. A cheque for funds raised so far was presented to RNIB at a special ceremony at the NP Aerospace office on Friday 16 July. Money raised will go towards the redevelopment of RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home in Ash Green, which caters for children with complex needs and sight loss.

Chief Executive

Roger Medwell, NP Aerospace Chief Executive, said: "I'm delighted that we have raised so much money for such a good cause. We visited RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home recently and witnessed first-hand the great work that goes on there. Everyone at NP Aerospace has been committed to raising money for RNIB to help towards the redevelopment of the school and children's home."

Sue Villiers, RNIB Community Fundraising Manager, said: "It's great that employees at NP Aerospace have managed to raise so much money for RNIB School and Children's Home. Money raised will help RNIB support thousands of children with sight loss from across the UK learn and grow into confident young adults. The upcoming fundraising events they have organised are great and I look forward to seeing what they do next."

Notes to editors

1. RNIB is currently embarking upon one of its most ambitious projects to date. The current site of RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home is being redeveloped and will be replaced with a state-of-the-art facility for young people with multiple disabilities, complex health needs and sight loss.

The main phase of redevelopment is due for completion in 2011 and will be a purpose-built facility, fully accessible for young people with complex needs and sight loss. RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home is open now and there will be a phased transition to the new facilities. As well as education, it offers year-round residential care and a wide range of therapies and health support such as music therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language support and a hydrotherapy pool. Our aim is to create a provision that others will emulate.
