Meet Ruth Rendell and PD James at an exclusive reception in aid of RNIB

Mystery!

Fans of mystery and intrigue are invited to join Ruth Rendell and PD James for a Read for RNIB Literary Reception at one of London's hottest venues The Ivy, 6 October 2011. Money raised from ticket sales will help the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) provide reading services and equipment to blind and partially sighted people.

Best-selling crime novelist Ruth Rendell CBE will appear at an exclusive literary lunch at The Ivy in London to raise funds for leading sight loss charity RNIB. From her award-winning Inspector Wexford series to novels written under her pseudonym Barbara Vine, Baroness Rendell will be sharing some of the highlights from her brilliant career and discussing her next eagerly-awaited Inspector Wexford novel, The Vault, out next month.

Ruth Rendell and PD James

Rendell will be joined by crime writer PD James OBE, most famous for her series of detective novels starring policeman and poet Adam Dalgliesh. Both James and Rendell will talk about their literary success, the trials and tribulations of producing best selling novels whilst raising and family and the pro's and con's of having work turned into TV adaptations, before opening the floor to questions.

The authors will be available to meet guests, answer questions and purchase signed books whilst enjoying canapés and a glass of bubbly in The Ivy's exclusive Private Dining Room.

"I can't imagine not being able to pick up a book"

Ruth Rendell said: "I can't imagine not being able to pick up a good book and settle down for a read, something that we all take for granted. RNIB helps people who have lost that simple joy. I am delighted to be supporting Read for RNIB Day. All the funds go directly to helping blind and partially sighted people maintain their independence and read on their own rather than be reliant on others."

PD James, said: "I am looking forward to taking part in an event on 6th October when I shall be discussing crime writing with Ruth Rendell. This is in support of Read for RNIB Day, to help blind and partially-sighted people to share the great pleasure we all take in reading by providing services such as audio, Braille and giant print. I wish the campaign every success."
