Leading sight loss charity RNIB and Queensgate Shopping Centre, Peterborough today announced a unique short story writing competition, which aims to inspire children aged 12 or under to put pen to paper.
Called 'My Super Senses', the competition aims to inspire children to get creative and write a story with a maximum of 500 words about any of the five senses - sight, taste, hearing, smell and touch. Entries can be submitted at the information point in Queensgate Shopping Centre until the closing date, 5 September. All participants are asked to donate £1 to RNIB which will fund a Talking Book for blind and partially sighted children to enjoy.
The winning author will win £25 in HMV vouchers and the unique opportunity to select a children's book recorded as a Talking Book, with a personal dedication to them at the beginning. They will also be invited to visit the RNIB Talking Books Studio in London where they might see a few famous faces.
Haidee Roberts, Community Fundraiser at RNIB in Peterborough, said: "I can't wait for all this to start. From the first words being dreamt up by Peterborough's budding scribes, to our special guest declaring the winner and the unveiling of a brand new Talking Book for blind and partially sighted children to enjoy. It's very, very exciting!"
