Statement in response to proposed amendment to Welfare Reform Bill that there be a set trial period before any assessment process is implemented fully for new applicants and those transferring from DLA to PIP; and that disabled persons organisations to be involved in formulating the assessment process: 17/01/12
"RNIB is disappointed that Peers haven't listened to the voices of disabled people and have voted against a trial period for the PIP assessment process before being implemented fully.
"Yes, there have been some improvements to PIP proposals, most notably the decision not to remove mobility payments from people in residential care. However, key problems remain and disabled people's experiences simply cannot be ignored when determining details of the assessment criteria and process.
"It's now crucial we keep pressure on MPs as we remain concerned that vital benefit entitlement will be lost for many disabled people who currently depend on it."
