Sight loss charity offers information about the most common eye conditions in five languages

Information about the most common causes of sight loss are now available in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Welsh as well as English, both in text and audio, thanks to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

The leaflets are part of the Understanding Sight Loss series which provides detailed information on sight conditions including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, diabetes-related eye conditions and glaucoma. In all cases, the information explains the causes, symptoms and treatment of each eye condition. It also includes suggested ways of coping with each condition and useful contacts for further support.

Matthew Athey, Eye Health Information Service Manager at RNIB, said: "RNIB's Understanding Sight Loss Series has proved to be a valuable resource for people newly diagnosed with eye conditions. We know that people from minority ethnic communities are at greater risk of some of the leading causes of sight loss, and it's predicted that by 2050 the number of people with sight loss in the UK will double to nearly four million. These new additions address the need of non-English speaking people who want more information about conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma."

Understanding Sight Loss leaflets are available on the RNIB website as audio files to listen to or downloadable PDF documents. For more information visit www.rnib.org.uk/translations
