RNIB's brand

RNIB's corporate identity was updated in 2007, in order to help everyone understand:

  • the dramatic impact blindness and partial sight has on people's lives
  • that sight loss can happen to anyone and that around 100 people each day begin to lose their sight
  • what RNIB does and that we are here to help blind and partially sighted people.

The changes included:

  • RNIB's name changing to "Royal National Institute of Blind People" (the RNIB abbreviation remained the same).
  • A clear consistent description of our role - "Supporting blind and partially sighted people" - accompanied the logo.
  • New audio, tactile and visual logos were produced.

RNIB logos

Logos for each of the UK countries were developed and all four logos are clearly part of one family. The name of the UK country is integral to the logo, appearing inside the turquoise lozenge, immediately underneath the letters, RNIB. The strapline "supporting blind and partially sighted people" remains the same for all the logos. For RNIB Cymru the strapline has been translated into Welsh and appears in both languages to the right of the lozenge.

In addition to the logo, RNIB's audio brand was also updated.

The reasons for rebranding

Our research demonstrated to us that there was a lack of awareness that RNIB is for blind and partially sighted people and that we were seen as not as proactive as other charities. It also indicated a lack of understanding about the impact of sight loss on people's lives and how common sight loss is.

As a charity we rely on individuals and companies to help us continue our vital work through donations, support, campaigning and volunteering. Helping the public to understand the very real impact of sight loss is vital for the continuation of our work. A better understanding of sight loss also has a positive influence on decision makers and on the attitudes encountered daily by blind and partially sighted people.

Our new corporate identity helps make it clear that we support the interests of blind and partially sighted people, and that we are a forward looking organisation. Generating greater awareness of sight loss and the work we do can only serve to benefit the lives of the blind and partially sighted people we are here to support.
