Meet Kevin - an award winning gardener.
When Kevin lost his sight in 2009, he thought his life was over. He thought he'd never be able to do the things he loved, like gardening, again. Having enjoyed a busy lifestyle in the print industry and as a London bus conductor, his life simply imploded after he lost his sight.
He didn't know where to turn but thankfully a family friend put him in touch with RNIB. We offered him practical and emotional support to help him piece his life back together.
Please will you make a donation today so that we have vital funds to reach out and help people like Kevin.
How we were able to help
RNIB's Helpline is a gateway service to further information about eye conditions, our life-changing services and the blind and partially sighted community as a whole. Our professionally trained staff were on hand to help Kevin rediscover his passion for life, and in particular his love of gardening.
Through conversations with Kevin, RNIB were able to put him in touch with Thrive - an organisation that uses gardening to improve the lives of people with disabilities. He went on to gain his NVQ 2 Horticultural Certificate and in 2010 won a Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower show as part of a team.
Kevin thought his life was over but with RNIB's careful support, we've helped him to flourish. We listened to his situation and provided tailored information to suit him. Please will you help us to do the same and support other blind and partially sighted people find their own journey, and help their lives to blossom.
