We campaign on three broad areas:
Preventing avoidable sight loss
Over 50 per cent of sight loss is avoidable.
We're campaigning for:
-
an understanding of the importance of regular eye tests
-
sight saving treatments to be available on the NHS.
Support for people when they lose their sight
Being diagnosed with a sight problem is traumatic. But only eight per cent of people are offered formal counselling by their eye clinic when they are diagnosed.
We're campaigning for:
-
emotional support to help people come to terms with sight loss
-
easier access to local services and support networks
-
prompt assessment and implementation for social care support that enables independence and choice.
Support for people living with sight loss
Sight loss affects every aspect of a person's life, and can leave people feeling isolated and lacking independence.
We're campaigning for
-
an inclusive education and assessment system
-
an end to blind and partially sighted people's exclusion from employment
-
public transport that is accessible, with concessionary fare entitlements maintained
-
the public sector and service providers to deliver on blind and partially sighted people's right to access to information, whether in large print, audio, or braille
-
the UK and EU to improve access to new technologies and promote inclusive design of products.
