Eye Pod in Norwich

On Tuesday 18 September RNIB's Eye Pod sight loss simulator came to County Hall in Norwich where it was visited by councillors, council officers and members of the public.

After entering the Pod visitors are able to view the world from the perspective of someone living with one of the four most common eye conditions, Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataracts.

50 per cent of all sight loss is avoidable and the Eye Pod helps to remind people of the importance of regular eye tests, good diet and lifestyle in reducing the risk of developing an eye condition.

Councillors and council officers were given information about RNIB's eye health campaigns. They were also given and an "East England Constituency Health Check" comparing the quality of local treatment provision with the rest of the region:

They got advice on ways to improve the provision and planning of local services for blind and partially sighted people and were invited to speak with representatives from Action for Blind People, Guide Dogs, Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind and the Norfolk Sensory Support team.
