Campaigners in the East of England have been challenging their MPs to walk with them, blindfolded, around their constituencies to highlight concerns about changes to welfare benefits for blind and partially sighted people.
RNIB Campaigner Keith Sadler took Simon Wright MP around Norwich city centre while Norfolk Volunteer Campaign Coordinator Siobhan Meade took Brandon Lewis MP on a walk through Great Yarmouth.
In Essex, Volunteer Campaign Coordinator Phil Lee and local campaigners Mark, Terri and Sue went on a walk with Bob Russell MP in Colchester. Campaigners also presented their MPs with diaries in print, audio and video formats, detailing how they use their DLA and the impact on their lives and independence if they were to loose it.
Phil said, "My MP had some awareness of this issue before the walk but I think today has given him a better perspective of the daily life of someone with sight loss and of the actual serious impact and knock on effects losing support under PIP would have on people's independence. I hope Sir Bob Russell's experience of being blindfolded and the diaries and briefing we gave him will enable to raise our concerns with the ministers responsible with greater understanding of why it matters to us."
