Hardest Hit Day of Action - East Midlands

There was a crowd of around 350 disabled people and their friends and family. Everyone was carrying placards' and banners expressing the same basic message "stop the cuts"

A large percentage of the crowd was made up of blind and partially sighted people from across the East Midlands. Visually impaired couple Jane and Bernard Sullivan were interviewed for ITV Central news and BBC East Midlands. Jane stated,

"Get David Cameron to wear a blind fold for a month, and then ask him how he feels about the cuts his government is making"

There was a selection of speakers during the Rally, the majority being personal experiences and stories of how the cuts will negatively impact on their lives. No MPs or Councillors agreed to attend the event however there were statements from a number of East Midland MPs which were read out by disabled speakers.

In between the thought provoking and emotional speeches there was music from Moveable Feast, the group of disabled performers sang a number of inspirational songs that really got the crowd going.
