Blind and partially sighted campaigners in the North East have been steadfast in their support for protests against the threatened loss to peoples' income under the new Personal Independence Payment.
RNIB Member Representatives, Bob Potter, Peter Bennetts and Claire Parker have been particularly involved, encouraging other members and supporters who may not have campaigned before to join us.
Many of the regions Members of Parliament have been supportive, understanding the need to seek to achieve a fairer set of reforms. Alex Cunningham MP visited the local society in Stockton to discuss the benefit cuts and support them.
Where MPs are unsupportive, campaigners are not giving up: In Northallerton, the MP James Wharton for Stockton South faced a tough question time format from local campaigners. He was the only person with a Teesside constituency not to support the amendments which would have kept contributory Employment Support Allowance for two years rather than one which the coalition government pushed through.
