Challenging Inaccessible Fitness Centres

Alan, a local campaigner in Liverpool who regularly attends his local branch of LA Fitness was told last year that due to a staff restructure, there would be fewer instructors free to assist him in setting up equipment and navigating round the building safely. As a result, the gym was to become completely inaccessible to him.

With our support, he challenged the gym about making the service inaccessible and their Regional Manager agreed to offer him a free companion pass. This could be used by any person accompanying him at any time and would not be limited for use by one individual.

The gym also agreed that companion passes could be offered to other disabled members who need extra support to use the gym. This is a great achievement and we would encourage other campaigners to challenge poor levels of support at their local gym and would love to hear how you get on.
