Over the last few months, RNIB has been working with Salford City Council in relation to a restructure of the service that supports blind and partially sighted children in mainstream school. This would impact on potentially 140 blind and partially sighted youngsters and affect services such as mobility and Braille training and support in the classroom.
We recently gave evidence to the council on how important it is for children with sight loss to have the right support in school and we have also sought the views of parents. We will be working with this authority over the long-term to ensure blind and partially sighted children get the support they need. If you are aware of any other changes to children's services in the North West, please get in touch as it is vital we speak to parents as early as possible.
