Campaign Voice - Chloe Laslett

RNIB's Volunteer Campaign Coordinators are a network of blind and partially sighted activists who work tirelessly to achieve positive change at a local and national level. Chloe Laslett, 19 is RNIB's Volunteer Campaign Coordinator in Eastbourne. Here she introduces herself and describes some of her recent campaigning activity.

Introduction

"I lost my sight a year ago, as I was just turning 19. My life changed dramatically. Simple things I used to take for granted - like going shopping - have become difficult and stressful experiences. I've lost contact with a lot of my friends because I just can't do the things they do any more - not because I'm not capable, but because many places aren't accessible. My sight loss is like a wall between me and other people."

Chloe's Campaign

"I'm campaigning for more audio description in cinemas. Not just on one or two films, or the current blockbuster, but on all films, all the time. Provision of AD is currently sporadic, which means my choice is really limited and I can't be spontaneous. This campaign is important to me because being able to go and see a film with my friends would be one step towards being included."
