Transport campaigners take concerns to the top

RNIB's West Midlands Regional Campaigns Officer and local campaigner Mike Hughes have been working with Jack Dromey MP and representatives from other disability organisations including Mencap on the issue of ticket office closures by London Midland Rail.

Campaigners believe London Midland's proposed changes to ticket office opening hours will have a direct and negative impact on access to transport for blind, partially sighted and disabled people and have also raised concerns about the accessibility of the consultation process.

The group managed to secure a meeting with Justine Greening, MP, Minister for Transport to highlight their concerns and the potential difficulties that disabled people would have when accessing their local rail services, should proposals go ahead unchanged. Whilst hopeful that the Minister may bring her influence to bear on the issue, they remain poised to take further action if necessary.
