Challenging cuts to staffing at train stations

Local disability campaigners and representatives from disability organisations, including RNIB recently met with the CEO of London Midland Rail.

The meeting was to discuss the reduction in ticket office hours at local rail stations run by LMR, leaving many of them inaccessible for disabled people after certain times of the day. It was arranged after local campaigner Mike Hughes used a phone in on BBC Radio WM to pose the question to the CEO.

Concerns were raised about the consultation process that LMR used before making this decision and a commitment was given to work closely with disability organisations in future to ensure a fully accessible consultation process. RNIB and other disability organisations and campaigners will meet with the Secretary of State for Transport next month to discuss the ticket office closures.
