Advising on the built environment in Leeds

Leeds is soon to be home to a fantastic new stadium. Work now has started to improve the local infrastructure which means improved pavements and crossings.

Tracy Dearing, Regional Campaigns Officer for Yorkshire and Humberside and a local resident Victor Jackson, who has significant sight loss, recently met with city planners to help ensure the built environment around the stadium is safe and easy for blind and partially sighted people to negotiate.

Representatives from Guide Dogs and the local authority rehabilitation team were also on hand to offer planners guidance on tactile markers to help keep people with sight difficulties safe. The local authority planners were very receptive to ideas from the group and were open to suggestions for improving their initial plans.
