Our Regional Campaigns Officer for Yorkshire and Humber, Tracy Dearing has been working with Mr Neil Smalley, a resident of Grassington (North Yorkshire) to tackle illegal parking in the village. Neil is registered Blind and is having difficulties crossing a main road in his village, due to people parking on double yellow lines and across the drop kerb.
Tracy has helped him to get together a number of key people to visit the crossing, who are in position to help. She put him in contact with the local Road Safety Awareness Officer Fiona Ancell, Frank Crossley from Traffic Management and Development and Helen Plunkett a Guidedogs Rehabilitation Officer.
The site visit highlighted that the junction which joins Wood Lane and Station Road has become unsafe for blind and partially sighted people living and visiting Grassington. The group agreed to go away and raise the issue to key decision makers within the police and local authority.
